Barnes Elementary School

Barnes Elementary School was constructed in the early 1960’s with additions in 1964 and 1979. The school was constructed using exterior corridors in the California style. Very little had been done to the school since initial construction in 1964.

With a large walk-in student population, the district wanted to renovate the school to make it a state-of-the-art educational facility. Work included reconfiguring the administration area, constructing a new media center, and replacing the existing combination gym/cafeteria with a new facility twice the size to allow PE classes to occur during lunch periods without interruption.

All circulation between classrooms was enclosed and classrooms were increased in size. Technology, including smart centers, was installed in the classrooms allowing computer, video and document projection capabilities within every classroom.

All building systems were replaced and a new low maintenance, durable, brick veneer was installed on the exterior to replace the previous plywood siding.
